REACT NATIVE · iOS & ANDROID

Mobile apps built with React Native.

Altun Core builds mobile apps for iOS and Android from a single codebase. The app is not a separate product: it uses the same backend and the same accounts as the web product.

Technologies used

  • React Native
  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL
  • OAuth 2.0
  • HTTPS/TLS
  • CI/CD

The backend items are shared with the web product; the final list follows what the project needs.

Why React Native

One codebase ships to two stores. Screens, business rules and types are written once, and the iOS and Android builds come from the same source.

  1. 01One codebase, two stores: iOS and Android build from the same source.
  2. 02TypeScript types shared with the web product, so both sides speak the same data model.
  3. 03A screen changes once and changes on both platforms; the two versions do not drift apart.

React Native is not the right answer for every app. Heavy graphics, intensive camera or sensor work, or deep platform-specific system access are better served by native iOS and Android development. If that is the case, it is said while scope is still open.

Scope

The parts a mobile app usually needs:

  1. 01Screens and navigation between them
  2. 02Sign-up, sign-in and session handling
  3. 03Push notifications
  4. 04Offline and cached state, so the app does not go blank when the connection drops
  5. 05A store build pipeline: versioning, signing and upload made repeatable

Scope varies by project. Which of these belong in the first release is decided together at the start.

A shared backend with the web

A mobile app is the second face of the same product. Whatever API and database the web side uses, the app uses too: one user account, one source of data, one authorization model. So the same feature never gets built twice.

Store submission

Publishing to the App Store and Google Play is separate work from the app itself: developer accounts, certificates, store listing details, privacy forms and the review cycle. Which accounts the app is published under is settled at the start of the project, because changing it later means migrating the app.

What should the app do?

Describe what you want to build, which platform you want to start with and what already exists. Whether the scope fits React Native is discussed in the first conversation.
